Secret to be more productive at your office

We’ve all heard and know about the “Hard Work-Smart Work” contradiction – but to most of us in here, that is nothing more than just a bunch of fancy words, when we know we’re neither!

Gone are the days when you have to put in long hours of work to succeed. But now – it’s all about smart work – that is, finding the right formula to get it done. So here are three tips that will help you become more productive at the office.

1.      Multitasking is a Myth

One of the most important things to note when trying to find a productive lifestyle is to ditch multitasking.

You think you’re doing both — working hard and smart — while multitasking, but research studies suggest otherwise. In fact, multitasking is counterproductive, not only resulting in lost time but also in lost productivity.

Why not try to focus on one task at a time before moving on to the next?

2.      Distraction Control

Blocking out distractions give you the ability to interact with the world in a goal-oriented way.

Juggling tasks without making mistakes means you have trained yourselves to screen out useless information and distractions to give full focus to the tasks at hand.

Letting people know politely that you need just a moment for concentration – will block out any distractions from colleagues disturbing you or the ringing of your office phone

3.      Emotions Management

Controlling and maintaining your emotions is a very essential office etiquette.

When you unleash your crises mode, you’ll take the stress out on others and waste time getting into arguments which ultimately leaves you feeling less efficient.

This will not only increase your productivity on the whole, but also brings sufficient time to do things, focus at one thing at a time, set very clear goals, and constantly develop our skills to meet the challenge.

Hacks to be more productive

The most common misconception is that working hard always produces great results.

The myth buster, however, is that working smart is going to be much better than working hard – and it might actually give you much better results.

1.       ACCURACY

Stop guessing and make sure that your decisions are backed up with data. Measure and optimize everything that you do. Working overtime will not affect your productivity. Make sure that you have done smart work, and not hard work.

Don’t say “yes” too often.

Most of us have a deep need to be liked. That translates into us saying yes to everything – which is the end of your elite productivity’, says celebrated author, Robin Sharma.

3.       TEAM UP

Stop doing everything yourself and start letting people help you. It’s important that you know how to open up and seek help from your colleagues. More often than not, even if your colleagues can’t help you, having them around can help you become more productive.

Stop doing repetitive tasks and start automating it. People often forget that time is money. If you think that you cannot build it yourself, then make sure that you hire someone who can do it for you.

5.       ALONE TIME

It’s important to walk away from our work once in a while and have some alone time. Alone time is good for the brain and spirit. It’s important that you have time for thoughts and reflections.

Being productive is something you have to work for every day, and be patient as well as skill in order to reach where you want to be.
